President’s Letter

Simon Sinek in his brilliant TED presentation titled, HOW GREAT LEADERS INSPIRE ACTION, makes the comment that we should simply work with the people who believe what we believe. Implied here is the idea that it is virtually futile to convince people to change their beliefs to believe what we believe. Of course, it’s my opinion that over the decades of Chiropractic’s history we have used a different axiom which would go something like … since you can’t change people’s beliefs, then alter yours to fit theirs. I know that it sounds rather cynical, but perhaps two things have happened to make it worth changing the strategy … one, there are now a majority of people who believe what we have always believed … two, we now have an effective way to connect with them.

First of all, we have a pretty darn good message … THE BODY IS A CONSCIOUS, SELF DEVELOPING, SELF ADAPTING AND SELF HEALING ORGANISM … THE NERVE SYSTEM IS CONDUCTING AND ORCHESTRATING A DIALOGUE OF ALL THE PARTS OF THE BODY WITH ITSELF AND WITH ITS ENVIRONMENT … KEEPING THE NERVOUS SYSTEM FREE FROM INTERFERENCES IS CRITICAL FOR THE HEALTH, WELL-BEING AND THE SUCCESSFUL DIALOGUE OF LIFE … SUBLUXATIONS ARE DESTRUCTIVE TO THIS EXPRESSION AND NEED TO BE CORRECTED IN EVERYONE WHO HAS THEM … you get the point. In fact, it’s not just a good message, it’s a life changing message for many people (come sit in the lobby of our Functional Chiropractic Neurology Center and watch the “miracles”).


And numbers? Eisenberg says that there were 250 million more visits to alternative practitioners in 1999 than medical doctors. Studies have shown these consumers are more educated and have not rejected medicine, but want it to be available only after lifestyle changes like regular exercise, rational nutrition, stress reduction, chemical elimination and low cost healthy interventions (read Chiropractic here) have been implemented and exhausted. As Seth Godin says, it’s not so much about convincing people as it is about simply saying, “Follow me.” And we’d better figure something out fast because, as Plasker points out, the fastest growing segment of the population are those living to 100 years of age … if you don’t make the right decisions now, you will surely pay with a poor quality of life later.


SO, HOW DO WE GET OUR MESSAGE OUT TO THOSE WHO ALREADY BELIEVE WHAT WE BELIEVE?

Certainly we must learn to use social media … recently a film was placed on Facebook to expose the No. 1 criminal of children in the world, believing that just exposing him would put pressure on those who could stop him and force them to use their resources to do so. KONY 2012 had more than 80 million viewings in the first 90 days. HOW CAN YOU GET YOUR MESSAGE/OFFICE TO GO “VIRAL?” It’s a simple formula …

= AN INSPIRING PRACTICE AND RELATIONSHIP WITH PEOPLE WHO WANT WHAT YOU BELIEVE.
