Creating “Turn-Key Health Care”

An inside look at the Brimhall chiropractic and wellness technique

By Dr. John Brimhall

Abstract: The 10-step protocol to wellness gives us a logical sequence to evaluate and treat the patient. D.D. Palmer said, “The subluxation is the cause of dis-ease.” But what is the cause of the subluxation? It can be toxicity, trauma or insufficiency in thousands of different possibilities. We found we needed a turn-key system of identifying and correcting these causations if the subluxation correction was to be maintained. If not, we became like chiropractic aspirins, just relieving symptoms.

Since 1971, I have practiced chiropractic and a holistic approach to health. I became very much aware that health is multi-faceted. It truly is structural, nutritional and emotional, with many subcategories of possible antagonists, mediators and triggers.

I have studied many chiropractic techniques, such as upper cervical, SOT, basic, Toftness, cranio-sacral, AK, Pettibon, Gonstead, neurology, Nimmo, acupuncture, BEST, etc. It became apparent there were some common elements of healing everyone needed and some that were unique to individuals.

The 10-step protocol that is Brimhall technique was born to meet all of these needs. It gives the doctor and patient confidence that they know when, where and how to structurally, nutritionally and emotionally seek and accomplish correction. We use state-of-the-art nutrition, equipment, procedures and a turn-key protocol. Identifying and correcting the subluxation is paramount. We have what I think is one of the most dynamic systems to evaluate and treat the spine through instrument adjusting. It is also easy on the patient and the doctor.

We hold eminent that the subluxation is the cause of disease. Yet what is the cause of the subluxation? There are many factors that trigger the subluxation and its recurrence.

This is undoubtedly the greatest time of history to be alive. It’s also the most complicated. The subluxation may be caused by trauma, toxicity or insufficiency. These three precipitators come at us from many directions and intensities that didn’t even exist a few years ago. The scientific literature is prolific to this understanding.

When I was in full time practice I was booked 3-4 months in advance because patients would come in from all over the world for wellness care. Patients would say you need to live in Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, England, Canada, India or wherever they were from. When I told them I wasn’t going anywhere but Mesa, Ariz., they said, “then you need to clone yourself.” I heard this hundreds of times through the years. So I decided to develop a cloneable “Turn-Key Health Care System”, that any chiropractic clinic or doctor of chiropractic could implement. This system became the Brimhall 10-Step Protocol to Wellness. Greg Stanley of Whitehall Seminars coined the term that patients get well by their own definition when they come to see us or the doctors we train. Mr. Stanley noted that many doctors that had the vision of complete wellness care could not make a living at it. He asked how do you do it? Therefore, we coined the name, “How to Clone a Million Dollar Wholistic Practice” so the doctors would realize we have been able to identify not only how to create wellness in the patient but wellness in the practice and have prosperity in all aspects of their lives.

We created a protocol that helped achieve wellness in the patient no matter what their condition had been named. The primary goal we had was to correct the subluxation and maintain that correction to allow wellness to ensue. That we did by intent. The fact that we created a million dollar practice by doing it was an accident.

What we have learned is that we can create practitioners that are worth a million dollars to their patients by teaching them the 10-step protocol. We have found that not all doctors know how to turn that into prosperity. Therefore, we have added the prosperity aspect to our seminar teaching.

One of the greatest books I have read is From Good To Great by Jim Collins, and in it Collins states that there are three parts to what he calls the Hedgehog Concept, which he draws in three circles. These are the keys of any business if it is going to achieve greatness and maintain that greatness. The concepts are: 1) You have to have great passion about what you do, 2) you have to become the best in the world at it, and 3) it has to drive your economic engine. Therefore, we implement all three concepts.

Another major trend that we must be aware of is that wellness care will be the greatest industry for growth in the next 10 years. Paul Zane Pilzer, in his book, The Wellness Revolution: How To Make a Fortune In the Next Trillion Dollar Industry, estimates that wellness care will become an industry worth over one trillion dollars by the year 2010. The fact is, people want wellness and health care and are willing to pay cash for it.

Now that you see somewhat the philosophy behind wellness care, let us discuss the way we go about it. The 10-steps to wellness are these:

  1. Remove nerve interference,

  2. Rebalance body electro magnetics,

  3. Reset adrenals and the General Adaptive Syndrome (GAS),

  4. Repair nutrition (identified and utilized),

  5. Remove infective organisms (through nutrition and structural correction),

  6. Replace enzymes and/or HCL,

  7. Re-inoculate the bowel flora,

  8. Remove abnormal emotional patterns,

  9. Reprogram allergy and/or sensitivities, and

  10. Remove heavy metals.

    A Brief Case Study of
    Brimhall Technique

A woman from the southern United States was referred to us by another chiropractor who stated that the patient was not responding to medical or chiropractic care.

Both she and her husband were yacht captains and had been traveling and living on their ship. She had become seriously ill and was told there was no hope for her. They sold their yacht and she had come home to die.

She had become so reactive that she couldn’t even use a cell phone or hair dryer and function. She was exhausted and was experiencing “brain fog.” We began the 10-step evaluation and treatment protocol. Of course we started with structure. As mentioned she had already been seeing a very good chiropractor but had been unable to hold spinal correction. We found we had to balance the electro magnetics, nutrition, emotions and help facilitate toxic elimination before spinal adjustments would maintain correction. We used the adjustor, percussor, cold laser, specific nutrition and emotional release technique.

She started showing favorable response within 48 hours. She made such progress her husband began care as well. Within one month her lab values and health picture became optimal.

This couple have now purchased a new yacht and come to the clinic for maintenance checkups only. Needless to say they have referred many patients to our clinic.

We have a step-by-step procedure we use in identifying each of these possible outcomes. This can be accomplished very simply by physical examination, observation, range of motion studies and kinesiology, or you can do a much more in-depth evaluation through blood tests, saliva tests, hair analysis, etc. To completely evaluate a patient on the 10-steps, once an initial examination and X-rays (if you take them) have been accomplished, may take only 5 to 10 minutes. Remember that we treat patients that have conditions, not conditions that have patients. That’s the difference between wellness care and disease care.

This article cannot be lengthy enough to describe the entire technique, but is simply an introduction to its concepts. A unique aspect of our seminars is that we teach the specific use of the Chiropractic Adjustor (patent pending), an instrument that helps you correct almost any spinal subluxation. It also can be used for extremity adjusting and is used with great ease on the patient and the doctor. We teach correction of cervical, thoracic and lumbar subluxations, as well as disc correction. It can be used for almost any technique or the specific techniques that we demonstrate.

We also teach a technique around the percussion instrument. A percussor is a human “jack hammer” that releases muscle spasms, chronic subluxations, cranial lesions, extremity subluxations, visceral congestion, fascial deformation, etc. This can be a stand-alone technique or compliment any technique that a physician already does. A percussor is not a vibrator. It uses a deep percussing action that releases scar tissue or energy sinks. Another instrument that we teach the use of is the cold laser. This advanced therapy technique allows you to set myotones, cranial nerves, release trigger points and visceral problems, free up frozen shoulders and even correct chronic subluxation patterns. Current research shows that cells communicate with themselves by coherent, laser-like light.

All of these instruments are utilized in practices daily and are demonstrated at Brimhall seminars. The program teaches very specific nutritional evaluation by reflex testing, clinical understanding, visualization and lab testing. Motion palpation, range of motion studies, kinesiology, chiropractic neurology and other observations are used to help evaluate the patient.

There are many patients that do not respond to conventional medicine or even chiropractic. Many chronic degenerative disease or auto-immune conditions require the whole person or holistic approach to allow the patient to hold their subluxation correction.

As a group, mankind is being stressed, contaminated, polluted and pushed to the outer limits of our digestion, our nervous system, our immune system and our emotions with our present lifestyles. It is critical we evaluate the whole person with a step-by-step procedure.
