Melbourne Seminar Is Largest Chiropractic Conference Held in Southern Hemisphere
In early August, the largest chiropractic conference and exhibition in the Southern
Hemisphere was held at the Melbourne Convention Centre by Parker Seminars. Over
900 attendees participated in the three-day event that featured 13 chiropractic
leaders from the United States including Drs. Fabrizio Mancini, Gilles Lamarche,
Gene Orlowsky, Bruce Parker, Shawn Powers, Rick Wren, John Demartini, Eric Plasker,
Dennis Nikitow and James Chestnut.
The event, which served as a fundraiser for the Australian Spinal Research Foundation,
was the first time a Parker Seminar was held in Australia.

First PCCW Student Attends Clinic Abroad Program in Fiji
Not many people would travel to a place they’ve never been, with people
whom they’ve never met, to a destination where the local dialect is a language
they don’t understand. For Palmer West 12th quarter intern Sten Kerwin,
however, this was all part of the motivation for becoming the first PCCW student
to participate in the Clinic Abroad Program.
During the 18-day trip to Fiji, completed during the break between the spring
and summer quarters, Kerwin teamed up with 27 Palmer College externs to care for
more than 2,000 patients.
The CAP is an optional program that provides qualified upper-level students at
Palmer College with the opportunity to gain additional clinical experience by
delivering chiropractic care to underserved populations around the world. When
Palmer West recently introduced a trial CAP program, Kerwin, a southern California
native who had never previously traveled outside of the United States, was the
first to sign up.
“It was a little intimidating at first,” said Kerwin. “But from
day one, the trip was a blast. The locals were welcoming and hospitable. The CAP
team worked well together, and we enjoyed our company inside the clinic areas
as well as outside.”

Panama
Chiropractors Needed for Mission in February 2004
Lina Ocon, the main organizer of the Chiropractors Restoring Energy Worldwide
(CREW) humanitarian missions to Panama, recently had a meeting with the mayor
of Panama City, Juan Carlos Navarro, to set an official date for the 2004 mission.
The announced dates for the 2004 CREW Panama mission are Jan. 31 through Feb.
7.
According to Ocon, for the past year Mayor Navarro has been consistently getting
asked when the chiropractors are coming back to Panama. This has been the longest
time between missions since the CREW began going to Panama in 1997. However, two
chiropractors have continued to provide chiropractic care in the city of Panama
since March of 2003.
Chiropractors who are interested in participating in the Panama mission should
visit the Planet Chiropractic Web site at www.planetchiropractic.com/crew/.
